Depression affects millions of people everyday worldwide, but is it possible to use CBD for depression and it actually help?
I know this post may not pertain to everyone as not everyone has experienced depression but for those that it does, my goal is only that this post may help!
Depression is basically and umbrella term derived from it’s many sources, some including PTSD, a traumatic experience, stress, diseases or illnesses such as cancer, and multiple others.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 300 million people of all ages suffer from depression globally. Today, we’re going to go over some of the ways CBD may help with depression.
What Is Depression?
Before we get into what CBD may do for those who suffer from depression I want to go over what depression is.
Depression (which is more common than people believe) is a mental disorder that can negatively affect one’s way of life, whether it be how they feel, think or act. Depression can cause you to have overwhelming feelings of sadness and experience a loss of interest in activities or events you once loved being involved with.
This will not only affect you but your family and loved one’s as well.
Some symptoms of depression may include-
- Loss of appetite
- Extreme fatigue
- Lack of sleep
- Lack of concentration
- Thoughts of suicide or death
There are many more possible symptoms as these are just a few. The symptoms may be either mild or severe.
If you experience any of these symptoms and believe you may be depressed, please seek help as soon as possible. This can be to either a professional, friend, family member or loved one.
CBD For Depression- Anxiety
Speaking from statistics, about half of all people diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with some sort of anxiety disorder. Anxiety can be both a causation and result of depression.
One of the greatest benefits CBD has to offer is its ability to help suppress anxiety.
We all have stress and our daily worries. With depression these can be amplified on top of an already foggy mind from the depression. Taking CBD will help to reduce anxiety and stress. Reducing anxiety and stress will also result in helping to clear some of the “mind fog” those who suffer from depression may find themselves having.

In the body, CBD binds to the cannabinoid receptors in the body and many scientists believe that these receptors play a huge role in helping to regulate and maintain a healthy feeding schedule. When CBD attaches with those receptors, it stimulates appetite.
CBD also helps with nausea and vomiting. A calmer stomach will be more efficient with digestion overall. This will also help to increase appetite in those with depression.

Using CBD for sleep sort of goes back to the anxiety and stress end. As stated before everyone has their normal everyday worries and stress and it may be amplified in those suffering with depression. Taking CBD regularly will help to reduce stress and anxiety helping to clear the things in your head that will cause you to have a hard time falling asleep or even cause you to not be able to sleep at all.
CBD also helps to relax muscles and release tension within them. Releasing tension in your muscles and relaxing them will help your body to relax overall and in return helping you to receive a longer, deeper sleep or even just aid in getting you asleep.
Inflammation can also play a big role in your bodies sleeping habits. A body with too much inflammation will be very stressed, causing sleep to become something that takes great effort. Using CBD to help reduce inflammation will put your body at ease and help you to obtain better quality sleep since your body isn’t so stressed by the inflammation.
CBD For Depression- Boost Mood
CBD is able to help boost your mood as a result of the above mentioned benefits to CBD. Your body has a lot to maintain day in and day out so when you use CBD to help relieve stress and anxiety, clear your mind, help improve sleep quality, reduce inflammation and a lot of the other benefits CBD has, it helps your body to take some weight off of its shoulders and become more relieved.
This can help to boost your mood and even help to increase energy as well as make you more productive. This is one of the biggest struggles someone with depression may experience. Since CBD has little to no side effects, this makes it a great alternative to antidepressants.
What’s The Answer?
Depression can be very complex and those who deal with it will all agree on one thing. Nobody wishes to have depression and unfortunately it’s one of those things that as humans we can’t always control.
CBD in my opinion as stated before is an amazing alternative to antidepressants. It’s many benefits that it holds has been shown to help those who suffer with depression, and help them combat it by inducing appetite, boosting mood and energy, reducing stress and anxiety and all of its other benefits.
