CBD is amazing, and it has many different uses! What about the seeds though, what are the benefits of hemp seeds?
Hemp is an amazing plant, and we know that we can obtain CBD from either hemp or marijuana.
Today I want to go a bit further than CBD though and go over the amazing benefits of hemp seeds! CBD comes from the buds on the hemp plant, but other parts of the plant (like the seeds we will be discussing today) have amazing uses as well!
Today I will go over the great benefits of hemp seeds!
Benefits Of Hemp Seed Oil- Fat
The seeds of the hemp plant have probably the second most known benefits in the plant right next to CBD.
If you go on Amazon right now and try to buy hemp CBD oil, you can’t due to their policies. You can however purchase hemp seed oil! Hemp seed oil does not contain any CBD as it is derived and cold pressed from the seeds of the plant.
Hemp seeds contain a good source of polyunsaturated and essential fatty acids. The great thing about hemp seeds is they have about a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 and omega-3, this is considered to be optimal range! These fats can be crucial for proper brain function and health of your nervous system.
The omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acid rich oil is able to help reduce symptoms of eczema, fight arthritis, and is great for the skin and scalp.
Rubbing hemp seed oil on areas of dry or itchy skin will also help to keep those areas moisturized!
Benefits Of Hemp Seeds- Protein
Hemp seeds just like other seeds contain protein (plant-based protein), although the protein from the hemp plant is considered to be high quality protein and is desired by many for its ability to have little to no effect in bloating, a problem most other protein powders have!
One problem with plants is that many don’t contain complete proteins, this means they are lacking an essential amino acid. In the case of most plants, that amino acid is lysine. Essential amino acids are amino acids that your body can’t produce. You must obtain these amino acids through your diet. Hemp protein, much like quinoa, contains complete proteins, another reason it is a highly desired protein to use!
30 grams of hemp seeds, about 2-3 tablespoons contain roughly 11 grams of protein, crazy enough this is comparable to meat such as beef.
Benefits Of Hemp Seeds- Digestion
Besides the protein in hemp seeds being highly digestible, hemp seeds help with digestion directly.
Hemp seeds are very high in fiber- both soluble and in-soluble! Fiber is crucial for the body as it helps to promote movement of material through your digestive system. It also increases stool bulk so high fiber diets can be especially beneficial to those with constipation or irregular stools. You must be careful though, fiber helps to move material through your bowels by also pulling water from your intestines so the more fiber you take in, the more water you must also drink!
You must also eat hemp seeds that haven’t been de-shelled yet (these are also known as hemp hearts) as the shell is what contains most of the fiber. Those looking to benefit from the fiber end of hemp seeds must eat the full-shelled hemp seeds!
Benefits of Hemp Seeds- Heart Health
To add to the list of the benefits of hemp seeds, they also aid in improving heart health and reducing risk of heart disease!
Hemp seeds contain high amounts of the amino acid arginine. Arginine produces nitric oxide in your body which helps to make your blood vessels dilate and relax. This will lead to lower blood pressure and overall a reduced risk of heart disease.
The gamma-linolenic acid found in hemp seeds has also been linked to reduced inflammation. Inflammation is needed for your body but unnecessary inflammation or too much inflammation can be hard on your heart. This means that the gamma-linolenic acid found in hemp seeds that help to reduce inflammation, will help to also reduce your risk of heart disease.
All of this will contribute in leading a happier, healthier life!
What More Could You Need?
In my opinion from what I’ve seen, hemp seed oil isn’t utilized enough! It has so many benefits and on top of that, is very easily accessible!
Since hemp was legalized last year, it is nice to see that all of the benefits of the various parts of the plant are finally being brought to light as they can be very useful to many people.
To put it shortly, hemp seeds contain various vitamins, minerals, good fatty acids and complete proteins. Hemp seeds are incredibly healthy and one of the best super foods you can buy!
